Most Faroese consider the hunt an important part of their culture and history. Animal-rights groups criticize the hunt as being cruel and unnecessary, while the hunters claim in return that most journalists do not exhibit sufficient knowledge of the catch methods or its economic significance.

Dear Sir:
I am taking the liberty of writing this short letter in the hope that you, a member of the Animal Welfare Assembly in Legislative Body of the European Union, will be able to do something about the annual tradition of killing whales in the Feroe Islands, an independent region of Denmark.
I have just learned about the grotesque spectacle the inhabitants of these islands engage in every year. Disguised as "right of passage" these people inflict the most horrendous torture to kind mammals and their young without any pity or compassion. The "red seas of the Feroes" is an article that is going around the civilized world. How is it that a country like Denmark allows something as lunatic as this? Denmark is being depicted as an uncivilized, ignorant, insensitive country, and her image ruined among all who see and learn about this, not to mention the impact it is having on her tourism. Therefore, I urge you, please, to take immediate and swift action and help have this atrocities stopped.
Thank you for your kind attention to this letter.
